(VOVWORLD) - To every Vietnamese, President Ho Chi Minh was a great leader and beloved father, who dedicated his life to the cause of national liberation and unification. To show respect, gratitude, and remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh, ethnic people in many localities, including Quang Nam province, take the surname Ho.

Throughout his life, President Ho Chi Minh always paid special attention to ethnic affairs and ethnic people. His emotion and care were a great encouragement to people of all ethnic groups. They always talk about President Ho Chi Minh with great respect and admiration.
Ho Van Ny, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province, said: “In the past, the Xe Dang, Cor, and Ca Dong ethnic people didn’t have a family name. They called each other by their given name. Listening to VOV, they heard about President Ho Chi Minh, who is called by the familiar name of Uncle Ho. They decided to take Ho as their family name. Thanks to Uncle Ho, we have the Vietnamese state. We must study well and build a rich and beautiful country.”

Ethnic groups living in the Truong Son mountain range in Nghe An, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai province took Ho as their family name. In Quang Nam province, the Cơ Tu, Ca Dong, Cor, Xê Đăng, and Bh'noong took the family name Ho to express their gratitude and acknowledgement of President Ho Chi Minh’s merits.
Le Minh Thang, Head of the Department of Ethnic Affairs of Nam Tra My district, said: “About 85% of the population in Nam Tra My district have the family name Ho. Other communes, such as Trà Cang, Trà Linh, and Trà Don, also have a lot of people with the family name Ho. Every family displays pictures and statues of President Ho in their houses.”
On national holidays such as the New Year and National Day, ethnic people with the Ho family name offer incense in commemoration of President Ho and his great merits for the nation.
Ho Van De of the Bh'noong ethnic group in Tra Leng commune, Nam Tra My district, said that their faith in the Party and love for President Ho Chi Minh are eternal.
“We have always been proud of having the family name Ho. My father took the name Ho to show his gratitude to the Party, State, and Uncle Ho, who led national construction and brought a prosperous life for all people,” Mr. De said.
In his Testament, President Ho Chi Minh said: "The Vietnamese people in the lowlands, as well as in the mountains, have endured numerous hardships for generations, have been oppressed and exploited by the feudal and colonial regimes, and have experienced many years of war. But the Vietnamese people are very heroic, brave, enthusiastic, and industrious."

Following President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings, ethnic people in Quang Nam province have united to overcome difficulties and strived in production and economic development. They have reminded each other to "study and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example" to build a peaceful and happy village and be deserved to the Ho family name.
Ho Van Huan, a Xe Dang man in Tra Mai commune, Nam Trà My district, said: “Without Uncle Ho, there would not be an independent, peaceful, prosperous, and happy Vietnam. As we are Uncle Ho's descendants, we must study hard and follow his example. In the past, my grandparents and parents joined the revolution and were awarded the Resistance Medal, 2nd class, by the State. I’m very happy and proud to have the Ho family name, a descendant of Uncle Ho. My children and grandchildren will also have the Ho family name.”
