(VOVWORLD) - Photography is considered a potential job as it has penetrated in different aspects of life. However, photographers are now facing a number of challenges such as copyright and professionalism. Hanoi Studio Gallery has held a workshop to seek solutions to Vietnamese photography’s development.

Many experts agree that in Vietnam, the public’s access to photographic works is still limited as Vietnam’s photography sector has not invested properly in communication and exhibitions.
Moreover, photographers are struggling with the copyright issues and the popularity of software using artificial intelligence (AI) to remake original art works.
“A photographic work is different from a photo. Skilled photographers must put a lot of thoughts into their works. You can take a beautiful photo and post it on Instagram or Facebook, but if you want to become a professional photographer, you have to think critically about what your final products will be,” said Le Huong Mi, an art lecturer.
Pham Minh Chinh, a photography enthusiast, said, “In the past, we only had black and white photos which required elaborate techniques, from selecting angles, setting the camera, shooting, developing films, and printing pictures. We treasured and kept each photo. But now, when you are able to take photos easily, it is not appreciated anymore.”
Young people who are pursuing professional photography are facing many difficulties, too.
“The first challenge for me is the equipment, particularly the lens. I can’t afford proper ones for my job. Another challenge for me is the lack of experience which prevents me from producing a perfect picture,” said a young photographer.
Duong Thu Hang, the Director of Hanoi Studio Gallery, said in order to produce photos with artistic and humanitarian values, a photographer needs to undergo some training and develop the necessary skills. Thus, there is a real need for opening training classes and exchanges on photography.
“We need to open training classes and contests on photography. Young people need to sharpen their skills and viewpoints to be able to produce artistic photos,” said Hang.

According to experts, it requires greater concern and investment from relevant agencies for Vietnamese photography to advance.
“Beside professionalism, Vietnamese photography requires a number of factors to develop including the commitment and support from the community, laws, policies, and sponsors,” said Photographer Pham Tuan Ngoc.
In the modern world, photographers also need to keep up with the technology to produce their works in a more creative way.
