The Hong Mi Folk Arts Club was founded in 2019 to serve tourists. It now has 20 members who are divided into 3 groups and perform at tourist attractions every weekend.

“We receive a warm welcome from visitors, who are impressed by the art and music performances of indigenous people. We invite visitors to join us and this creates unforgettable memories for them,” said Giang A Hai, Chairman of the Club.

Most members of the Hong Mi Folk Arts Club are students, who are taught how to play traditional musical instruments, to sing, and to dance. 20 club members including Giang Thi Chung Thuy now perform confidently on stage.

“I joined the Hong Mi Folk Arts Club nearly 2 years ago. We often perform at restaurants in Bac Ha District every Sunday. Our shows are enjoyed by both domestic and foreign visitors,” said Thuy.

Vu Xeo Seng can play the panpipes very well. Together with other club members,  he often performs at Bac Ha Market. “We perform at the night market every Saturday. We hope to promote the culture of the Mong through our shows.”

Ta Bach Lam, a visitor from Vinh Phuc Province, said,“This is the third time I have visited Bac Ha Market. I found that the dances are very interesting and local people’s traditional costumes and musical instruments such as the flute and panpipes are unique.”

In March, the Hong Mi Folk Arts Club performed at a music and art exchange event between Vietnam and India on the stage of the Bac Ha night market, attracting thousands of people. It also works with other groups to collect and perform folk songs and dances.

Bui Van Vinh, Head of Bac Ha District’s Department of Culture and Information, said that the Hong Mi Folk Arts Club performs regularly at Bac Ha Market to preserve the cultural values of the Mong people.

“Thanks to their efforts, more and more visitors know about the unique culture and tourism attractions of the locality,” he added.
