(VOVWORLD) - Literature and arts are the quintessence of culture. In the new era, it’s crucial for the cultural sector to build a literary and artistic value system that harmonizes tradition and modernity.
A literary and artistic value system includes values related to the perception of reality, creativity, humanity, beauty, entertainment, anticipation of the future, preservation, and communication. Literary and art critics play an important role in the system.

“The Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art will continue to nurture and pass down to younger generations positive literary and artistic values, especially the fighting spirit and the humanitarian spirit. It is essential to criticize the expression of viewpoints which go against the cultural and moral values of the Vietnamese people,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Communication and Education:

Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Committee for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts, says building a literary and artistic value system contributes to the development of Vietnam’s culture and people.
“A literary and artistic value system has existed for thousands of years, throughout Vietnam’s history. But, in the new era, it is essential to add new values. Literary and artistic works need to reflect life, the nation, and the people, combine tradition with modernity, and educate people about patriotism and love of the homeland,” said Mr. Ky.
A literary and artistic work can have a great impact on people’s personality, morality, creativity, social responsibility, and awareness of civic duties.

“We need to define value systems for drama, fine arts, cinematography, and so on. Each genre should have its own value system and specific theories,” said Director and People's Artist Dang Nhat Minh.
Professor Ho Si Quy of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences said worthy literary and artistic works orient people toward goodness and humanity, so it’s important to build a literary and artistic value system that is relevant to the current period.
“It is important to build a literary and artistic value system that will guide, orient, and encourage writers and artists to contribute all they can to serve the people and the nation,” said Mr. Quy.
