98% of the population in Binh Lieu district in Quang Ninh province are ethnic minority people. The area is famous for the Tay, Dao Thanh Phan, Dao Thanh Y, and San Chi cultures, which hold great potential for tourism development.
Binh Lieu, where there are many festivals such as the Soong Co Singing Festival in March, the Wind Prevention Festival in April, and the Harvest Festival in the autumn, has become a popular destination for travelers.
Local authorities have taken steps to preserve their culture and develop community tourism. For example, they encourage students and cadres to wear traditional costumes on weekdays. Classes and clubs to teach folk songs and traditional crafts to young people have been organized. Trac A Thin of Binh Lieu district says the Soong Co singing of the San Chi people is popular with visitors.
“We have Soong Co singing clubs in our primary and secondary schools. We also have music troupes who perform for the tourists,” said Thin.
Quang Ninh has more than 600 tangible and intangible historical and cultural heritages, attracting millions of visitors a year. The Yen Tu Special National Complex in Quang Ninh draws pilgrims during the festive season in spring. At village festivals, visitors can try their hand at conical hat making, Dong Ho painting, meditation, and cooking local specialties.
“We have developed tourism products based on the spiritual, cultural, and historical values of the Yen Tu Special National Complex, and consistently work to preserve and promote our local cultures,” said Le Trong Thanh, deputy head of the Tung Lam Development Joint Stock Company.
