(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam began national economic census on Monday to get an overview of the national economy and identify economic potentials and advantages as well as barriers and challenges. The census will serve as a foundation for rapid, sustainable economic growth.
Basis for making decisions about economic growth
The 2021 national economic census, from March 1 to May 30, will identify businesses and organizations; economic sectors; types of businesses, administrative agencies, and associations; branches of organizations, individual businesses, and religious organizations; and foreign NGOs in Vietnam. It will collect information about jobs and workers’ income, business and production expenses, taxes and budget contributions, investment capital, and technological research and development. Information about IT applications, capacity to adapt to the 4th Industrial Revolution, financial access, and international integration will also be included in the census.

Nguyen Trung Tien, Deputy Director General of the General Statistics Office, said, 'The census will evaluate the performance and size of businesses as well as their IT application capacity and the labor structure of businesses, localities, and types of ownership. The results will serve as a basis for calculating official statistical targets including the GDP target.'
Modern international standards will be used
Mr. Tien says the 2021 census will have some changes from the 2017 census, 'We will survey economic establishments at the communal level in line with international standards to assess the local business activities and their key products. We will take advantage of administrative organizations to conduct the survey and calculate statistical indexes. IT will be used throughout the process from preparing, collecting, and processing to announcing the result to save human and financial resources and shorten the time required.'
The census will collect information online using e-questionnaires. Results of the census will facilitate economic restructuring, reforming growth models, and improving the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of the economy.
