Binh Thuan works to reduce plastic pollution

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, CEO of Little Mui Ne Resort and Vice Chairman of the Binh Thuan Province Tourism Association, the southern monsoon, windy season causes significant trash accumulation on Phan Thiet's beaches, negatively impacting tourism and local businesses.

"Garbage comes here from many sources. Our business is always trying to create a beautiful environment and beach," said Binh.

Little Mui Ne Resort has installed trash bins for organic and inorganic waste, with illustrations to help distinguish between different types of trash. Staff at the resort guide and educate visitors on sorting waste into recyclable materials, organic waste for composting, and other classifications.

Ms. Pham Thi My Nhung, an employee of Little Mui Ne Resort, said:  "We collect trash and sort it into bottles and cans. Organic waste is composted to fertilize the plants. Very little is left to clean up."

Mr. Huynh Quang Huy, Director of the Binh Thuan Provincial Fisheries Protection Sub-Department, says the province has strengthened efforts to increase public awareness and enforcement of environmental protection.

Binh said: "We need more efforts from agencies, departments, branches, and localities to classify waste. We must determine the source of litter and where the garbage comes from. This will help find the causes of marine pollution."

Starting January 1 next year, all residents will be required to classify waste at the source. Effective waste sorting by small businesses and households will significantly reduce the amount of waste and minimize plastic pollution. This initiative aligns with Vietnam's goal to reduce plastic waste in seas and oceans 70% by 2030.
