(VOVWORLD) - The COVID-19 pandemic is hurting socio-economic development in Vietnam and around the world. In such a challenging circumstance, cadres at all levels need to be resolute and work closely with other officials to overcome any difficulty.
Preventing and containing the COVID-19 pandemic is vital to ensuring Vietnam’s socio-economic development. Determined to fight the disease as if fighting an enemy, the Vietnamese Party and State have mobilized all resources and implemented coordinated measures to contain the disease. The fight against the disease is a test of the leadership of local administrations and agencies, each of which has its own characteristics and resources.
Under the leadership of the Party, the State, the government, the Prime Minister, and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, agencies and localities implemented coordinated measures and had early success in the fight against the pandemic. Vietnam’s achievements have been acknowledged by the public at home and abroad.
The government, in all of its decrees, has urged agencies, localities, and the public to stay vigilant and take stronger measures to contain the disease. Leaders are directed to creative initiatives, take actions, and work out scenarios for their localities and agencies to combat the disease while ensuring socio-economic growth - a dual task that the Prime Minister has emphasized repeatedly.
According to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the first six months of 2020, for the first time in decades, the number of businesses shutting down exceeded the number of new businesses. If the pandemic continues, 30% of surveyed businesses will be shuttered 3 months from now, and 50% will be closed down in 6 months. Millions of people are at risk of losing their jobs. It is the responsibility of leaders and heads of ministries, sectors, and localities to work harder to achieve socio-economic targets and sustain productivity in the post-pandemic period. Leaders’ capacity will be revealed by how well they overcome difficulties and boost production during the pandemic.
Cadres can prove themselves by ensuring social security and caring for people. COVID-19 is expected to set back poverty reduction efforts. The Government and the National Assembly Standing Committee have created an aid package to help people affected by the pandemic. Local leaders must now prove their capability by directing the aid to the right recipients. They need to prove their worth through actions rather than words.
COVID-19 is affecting all aspects of Vietnam’s economy, social security, and national defense. It is a test of leaders’ and cadres’ capabilities, wisdom, and dedication. The test is of particular importance to personnel preparations for the 13th National Party Congress.
