(VOVWORLD) - Chile has surpassed Uruguay and Argentina to become Latin America's top country to live and do business in, according to a poll released on Friday. Before that, Chile had been listed as one of the most peaceful, developed, and stable countries in the region.

The global Ipsos polling firm asked 367 opinion leaders from 14 Latin American countries to name their three favorite places in the region, and 58 percent picked Chile as the best place to live, followed by Uruguay and Argentina.
Chile's low crime rate and respectable wages were cited as reasons why people from the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and other South American countries would choose to live there.
55 percent of respondents said Chile is the best place for doing business, followed by Peru and Colombia.
The average Chilean person has nearly 20,000 USD, up 5.9% from last year’s amount. Chile is the only country in the region whose per capita property exceeds 9,000 USD. Insurance and pensions make up 54% of Santiago residents’ property.
The 10th edition of the Global Peace Index of the Institute of Economics and Peace reveals Chile was one of the most peaceful countries in Latin America. The Institute analyzed 23 indicators including the rate of criminal deaths, civil conflicts, terrorism, anti-terrorism policies, military expenditures, migration, and crimes in general. In Latin America, Chile was judged as one of the 27 safest countries in the world.
Chile is also one of the most developed and stable countries in South America and enjoys the highest ranking in human development. Chile leads Latin America on the human development index, in competitive edge, life quality, political stability, income per capita, globalization, economic freedom, corruption perception, and low poverty rate. GDP per capita in Chile last year was 24,000 USD. Chile has relatively high rankings in press freedom and democracy. Chilean people enjoy South America’s best educational system.
