Safe tourism is one of top priorities to recover the tourism sector to flexibly adapt to the pandemic and balance pandemic prevention and economic development.

During the next two years, Hanoi will concentrate on the domestic tourism market and gradually restore the international market with a focus on countries where COVID-19 has been effectively controlled, such as Southeast Asian countries, Japan, and South Korea, while gradually attracting tourists in North America, the EU, and new markets such as Australia and India.

Hanoi will carry out its tourism restoration roadmap in two phases. The first phase, from the first quarter to the second quarter of next year, will focus on domestic tourism with safe tourism models. Phase two, which will begin on the third quarter of 2022, will restore tourism activities and products in the city and receive international visitors.

Hanoi targets to welcome 9 to 10 million visitors next year, including 7.8 to 8 million domestic travelers and 1.2 to 2 million foreign visitors. In 2023 the city will strive to welcome 12-14 million tourists, including 9.5-11.5 million domestic visitors and 2.5-3.5 foreign visitors.

Dang Huong Giang, Director of Hanoi’s Tourism Department, says: “Hanoi initiates the establishment of a safe tourism corridor and strengthen links with provinces and cities. Tourism is an intersectoral, regional, and linked sector so provinces and cities have responded to the initiative. Short vacations to resorts are becoming trending. The outskirts of Hanoi are green and safe areas for small groups of tourists who will be required to have negative COVID-19 tests. We hope the tourism sector will recover strongly when a safe corridor is established.”

Hanoi and localities will increase advertising of new tour packages and promotional activities while enhancing online access to tourism.
