(VOVWORLD) - Since the Van Dong-Mong Cai highway opened two months ago, the border city of Mong Cai has received more than 430,000 visitors, quadrupling the figure of last year.

The 17-km Tra Co white sand beach, Sa Vi cape, which is the northeastern-most cape of Vietnam, historical and spiritual relic sites like Tra Co communal house, Po Hen historical relic, and Xa Tac temple, and busy border gates are the attractions that Mong Cai city offers.
Now that the Van Don-Mong Cai Highway opens, it takes only 3 hours from Hanoi and 1.5 hours from Ha Long city to get to Mong Cai.
Pham Khac Viet of Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh province said: "The opening of the Vân Đồn-Móng Cái highway has made our travel easier."
Nguyen Thi Ha, a visitor from Hanoi, said: "I like this destination because I can go to the beach and relax in fresh air. Here we can explore beach, mountains, many tourist sites, and exciting recreational facilities."

The city has strengthened the links between ecological tourism sites and promoted maritime and border mountain tourism routes.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Mong Cai municipal People’s Committee, said the city is aiming to attract more investors to local tourism and will organize tourism, cultural, and sports activities to attract more tourists.
"We will focus on tapping our strengths and promoting winter tourism by organizing religious activities and educational activities at the Po Hen National Historical Relic Site. We will also develop community tourism in Hai Son and Bac Son communes to let visitors experience ethnic minority culture. We plan to organize shopping tours and promote OCOP products during the upcoming New Year festival," said Ms Huong.
Mong Cai city plans to cooperate with China’s Guangxi province in resuming cross-border tourism activities such as tours of Mong Cai- Dongxing, cross-border self-driving tours, and the Vietnam-China Border Trade Fair. The city will also work closely with localities in Quang Ninh province to receive European visitors from Van Don international airport. With all these efforts, Mong Cai city hopes to become a green, smart, friendly, and safe tourism city.
