According to the national weather center, the temperatures in the north will fall to a low of 10 degrees Celsius in low land areas and zero to 7 degrees Celsius in the mountains where snow and frost are expected. The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Response is closely monitoring weather developments and keep local administrations and the public informed so they can respond promptly.
The elderly and children are reminded to stay indoors when the weather is cold and not use coal or fuel burning stoves to warm closed rooms which could cause a fire or a accidental burns or emit noxious gases. Localities are advised to allow students to stay home from school when the temperatures are low.
The Committee asked administrators to strengthen communications and guidance on hygienic livestock production, storing food, and moving free-range animals to pens if necessary to ensure their safety, and strengthening disease prevention for cattle, poultry, and fisheries.
Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy Director General of the Livestock Production Department, said local administrations need to disseminate information about anti-cold measures and instruct farmers to keep their animals warm. He said it’s also important to provide material support and funding for the poor, social policy beneficiaries, and ethnic minority people during cold spells.
"Farmers need to prepare to protect their animals against cold spells like deworming, consolidating barns, and storing feed. Agriculture agencies need to prepare for any situation,' said Mr. Chinh.
Localities have warned tourists about the cold weather and posted warning of frost and slippery conditions and organized teams to inspect anti-cold measures.
