(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong attended the virtual summit of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and world political parties on Tuesday. The event, themed "For the People's Wellbeing: the Responsibility of Political Parties", was attended by delegates from more than 500 political parties and organisations in 160 countries. In his remarks, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that the Vietnamese delegation was attending the summit with an open and cooperative spirit, based on VN’s external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralization, and diversification of ties, and its tradition of pure internationalism and respect for Vietnam-China relations.
Responsibility of political parties is in the people’s interest
Party leader Trong shared with the summit a viewpoint of President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the Commuist Party of Vietnam, who said the people are the most valuable, more valuable than anything, the ultimate.
He said people are the social-political foundation and the source of the power of political parties and organizations, as well as the target of the orientations and policies of any nation or political party.
The pursuit of happiness is a legitimate aspiration and right of all people. It includes comprehensive development, a prosperous and happy life, peace, equality, love, and mutual support.
Right now people in many countries are facing severe difficulties and challenges. The global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of socio-economic life.
Mr. Trong said that political parties and organizations need to support the government of their country in bringing happiness to the people, responding to global challenges, and improving global governance.
Party leader Trong said political parties and organizations should make people primary in building and implementing any policy, guideline, or platform and make sure development benefits the people. He hailed the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, dialogue, and respecting international law and the legitimate rights of others in resolving differences.
He said only when nations live together in peace and friendship with a shared hope for a bright human future can people worldwide enjoy true happiness. The urgent need now is for nations and political parties to strenghten cooperation to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, quickly recover the global socio-economy, and maintain social security.
People’s wellbeing
Mr. Trong said the 1st Platform of the Communist Party of Vietnam affirmed that the basic task of the Vietnamese revolution was to serve the needs of the nation and the poeple’s aspirations. Being close to the people and supported by the people enabled the Communist Party of Vietnam to overcome challanges and obstacles, successsfully lead the people to national freedom and reunification, rebuild after the war, and win great victories in national reform and development.
The Party chief said Vietnam’s practical experience has taught it to consider the people’s wellbeing as the main goal and to rely on their invincible strength. The Party leads by guidelines based on objective rules to balance economic growth with social progress and justice; to build a law-governed state of the people, by the people, and for the people; to promote innovation, creativity, and social participation; and to develop peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations with countries around the world.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese Party and State have put people’s health and safety first and concentrated their efforts on epidemic prevention, economic recovery, and social security.
Mr. Trong told the summit that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people are striving to build a pure, strong, comprehensive, and effective Party and political system, accelerate renewal, industrialization, and modernization, and pursue an external policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and deep and comprehensive global integration. Vietnam is ready to be a friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community, expanding relations and stepping up cooperation with people of other countries, striving for peace, national independence, democracy, development, cooperation, and social progress.
