The Vietnamese government is determined to implement both an effective COVID-19 prevention and control program and a socio-economic recovery and development program that can achieve GDP growth of 6 to 6.5% this year.
Pursuing National Assembly goals, creating breakthroughs
At an online meeting with localities on implementing the Party Central Committee’s conclusion and the 15th National Assembly’s Resolution on socio-economic development in 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked that causes and solutions be identified in order to realize their goals.

“Localities have to thoroughly discuss and agree on the main tasks and solutions needed to achieve the political goals assigned by the Party and State, especially those of the 2022 socio-economic development plan and State budget. I request focusing on inter-sectoral and inter-regional issues, strengthening coordination in promoting potentials and advantages, improving the efficiency of resource allocation and use, and focusing on methods and directions that will create breakthroughs in implementation,” Mr. Chinh said.
The government is determined to grasp every opportunity to boost socio-economic recovery and development nationwide and in every sector. Three major tasks are to boost trade and production, accelerate exports, and enhance public investment disbursement and mobilize public-private cooperation resources for infrastructure development, especially strategic infrastructure. Other tasks are to maintain the macro-economy, curb inflation, and strengthen the economy’s self-reliance, resilience, and adaptation.
Another group of solutions is to rapidly develop a modern infrastructure system, accelerate the construction of key infrastructure projects, and strengthen regional and international connectivity via key infrastructure projects such as the construction of North-South expressways and Long Thanh International Airport.
At the National Assembly’s first extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, the government submitted to the National Assembly a draft resolution on fiscal and monetary policies to support the Socio-economic Recovery and Development Program. If approved, the Program will play a key role in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, repairing economic damage, recovering and sustainably developing the socio-economy, restoring the labor market, and resolving social security and welfare issues.
Tran Anh Tuan, a National Assembly deputy for Ho Chi Minh City, said: “The government has introduced fiscal and monetary policies to boost an economy badly damaged by the pandemic. The government is identifying COVID-19-affected people who will benefit from the fiscal policies and is working to strengthen local health systems.”
Taking drastic action
The Government’s motto for 2022 is “Solidarity, discipline, active adaptation, safety, efficiency, recovery, development.” The government has set 82 targets for sectors to achieve in addition to the 15 targets set by the National Assembly. Regulations on safely and flexibly adapting to and controlling the pandemic will be enforced from central to grassroots level.
Government leaders have encouraged all 63 provinces to actively pursue economic recovery and development goals. The progress made in late 2021 indicates that the government has the situation under control and is on the road to economic recovery.
