Over the past three days, the festival, organized by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Hoi An South Development Company, has drawn kite flying teams from many countries including India, South Korea, China, and Australia.
Visitors have enjoyed stunning performances featuring 100 different types of kites, attended kite-making workshops, sampled many food specialties, and watched magic performances and fire dances.
Many festivalgoers have made side trips to the ancient town of Hoi An, the My Son sanctuary, Cham islet, and the monument to Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Thu to explore the rich cultural heritage of Quang Nam.
The Kite Festival provides a platform for artisans from around the world to exchange, share, and promote kite flying and kite making. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee, said the festival is a key cultural tourism activity that aims to attract both domestic and international tourists.
Orlando Ongkingco, Vice President of the Southeast Asia Kite Association, said Quang Nam province is an ideal location for kite events. He said he hopes Vietnam will become an official member of the Association, whose goal is to preserve and promote Asia's rich kite tradition. Mr. Ongkingco said he believes collaboration between Vietnam's kite artisans and the Southeast Asia Kite Association will help showcase Vietnamese culture to the world.
