(VOVworld)- The 9th National Patriotic Emulation Congress is being held in Hanoi to honor outstanding role models. The Congress creates an opportunity to reform reward and emulation activities in order to encourage the public to strive forward.
Since President Ho Chi Minh released his appeal for national patriotic emulation on June 11, 1948, emulation movements have contributed greatly to national construction and defense.
Inspired by President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal
Mr. Lai Van Nghiem of Hanoi remembers vividly every word of President Ho Chi Minh’s emulation appeal: “Each Vietnamese person, young and old, boy and girl, rich and poor, needs to become a soldier in a front: military, economic, political, cultural…”. The appeal inspired Nghiem to join the army and become an artillery soldier fighting on the northern and central fronts. Nghiem recalls that at that time, all the people enthusiastically responded to President Ho Chi Minh’s emulation appeal: “President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal was simple but profound, inspiring everyone. Whenever President Ho Chi Minh visited us, he said that in response to patriotic emulation, we need to fulfill our tasks. We have had different tasks in different revolutionary periods, but by fulfilling our assigned tasks, each organization or individual respond to the President’s emulation appeal”.
President Ho Chi Minh’s emulation appeal was quickly and widely responded to by the public. Emulation movements were launched to promote production and encourage the public and soldiers to increase their efforts to fight for national independence and freedom.
Reforming patriotic emulation movements
During Vietnam’s national resistance wars, patriotic emulation movements achieved concrete results. Since Vietnam embarked on its renewal and integration process, patriotic emulation movements have been reformed. In 2014, the Politburo of the Party Central Committee issued Decree 34 on reforming reward and emulation activities by improving their quality, diversifying their activities and increasing their effectiveness. Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Bao said emulation activities should be tailored to local conditions and should focus on workers. Bao said:“The emulation movements need to inspire patriotism. The Party and State need to have clear policies on promoting emulation while ensuring the public’s interests. Emulation movements should also inspire creativity and be tailored to local conditions”.
Over the past 67 years, President Ho Chi Minh’s patriotic emulation appeal has retained its relevance and inspiration. Emulation movements have been an effective driving force for national construction and defense.
