(VOVworld)- Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has stressed that anti-corruption activities will be strengthened with stronger determination. The Party leader made the remarks in his closing speech at the national conference on anti-corruption in Hanoi on Monday.
Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong noted that the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption has over the past few years strengthened its coordination with relevant agencies to fight corruption. As a result, several corruption cases have been detected and dealt with thus contributing to enhancing people’s trust in the Party and State.
Fine-tuning regulations on anti-corruption
The Party leader said that in 2014 and the following years, Vietnam needs to fine-tune mechanisms, policies and laws to address shortcomings in socio-economic management, especially in corruption-prone areas. He asked the National Assembly and the government to continue revising and fine-tuning laws, mechanisms and policies on anti-corruption, especially after the 2013 Constitution and certain laws were approved by the National Assembly. Trong said it is necessary to be determined and patient to develop preventive, punitive and strict mechanisms to prevent corruption.
Strengthening communications and education in anti-corruption
According to the Party leader, it’s important to encourage the public to strictly denounce corruption. Each Party committee, organization, agency, official and party member should be aware of their responsibility for detecting and dealing with corruption. They should also be aware of the objective, significance and contents of Party and State regulations on fighting corruption, whose first priority is prevention while serious punishments are deterrent measures against corruption.
Improving capacity in combating corruption
The Party leader stressed that Party Committees, Party organizations and Party officials need to have strong political determination, and regularly and continuously follow and create strong coordination of the whole political system and society in combating corruption. He said: “Political determination means a vow to combat corruption which should be proved with specific activities and widely published to encourage the public to join the fight and oversee it. Party officials and members should set an example in strictly following regulations on uprightness and discipline, in practicing thrift and preventing wastefulness and in abiding by Party regulations and State laws. In addition, we need to show the public our determination to fight corruption and negative influences not only by our words or on paper but by our actions. Party committees and organizations need to bring into play their fighting spirit to prevent, detect and strictly punish corruption”.
Key points in anti-corruption
Party leader Trong emphasized the need to focus efforts on guiding the detection, investigation and punishment of corruption in the near future. Trong said: “In the meantime, we need to step up the process of dealing with serious, complicated corruption cases according to the law. We need to have a focus in dealing with collective and organized corruption cases. It’s also important to promptly deal with corrupt officials and confiscate corrupt assets. We also have to be determined and strictly follow principles in dealing with corruption cases”.
Trong says it is necessary to step up supervision and inspection activities and include anti-corruption in the annual supervision program. Effectively fighting corruption will create the social trust needed for Vietnam to develop sustainably, the Party leader concluded.
