(VOVWORLD) - Sa Dec village in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap is gearing up for the first edition of an ornamental flower and plant festival which is scheduled to open this Saturday. The festival is one of the initiatives aimed at promoting the rich tradition of this village, which boasts a history spanning over a century.

The Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival will feature a variety of activities aimed at promoting the ornamental flower industry in Dong Thap Province. The event will also honor ornamental flower growers and feature workshops on enhancing the value chain of the ornamental flower industry. There will also be a conference to boost trade of ornamental flower products. In preparation for the festival, Sa Dec City has commissioned over 200,000 flower baskets of various types, including the debut of multicolored Korean raspberry chrysanthemums.
Sa Dec Rose Field, a tourist attraction in Tan Quy Dong Ward, is showcasing approximately 12,000 flower pots featuring over 20 flower varieties for the festival. Other tourist sites like Hung Thu Happy Land, Sa Dec Ornamental Flower tourist site, Tu Ton Rose Garden, Pink House, and more have been decorated with more flowers and ornamental plants to welcome visitors.
Tran Van Tiep, a flower grower in Sa Dec, said: “We need to continue to research and learn to further develop the flower village. More collections of flower varieties have been created through generations. As a result, ornamental flowers in Sa Dec never become outdated.”

Sa Dec village has 950 hectares for growing more than 2,000 flower varieties. Raspberry chrysanthemums and roses are most concentrated in Tan Quy Dong and Tan Khanh Dong Wards.
Huynh Thi Hoai Thu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap Province, said: “The blossoming flower trees paint vibrant hues, ushering in spring for everyone, including tourists. Observing the city of Sa Dec bathed in the colors of spring signals the imminent arrival of the season, creating a fresh atmosphere and vitality in anticipation of the success of the Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival. We strongly believe that visitors will have captivating and memorable experiences.”
Visitors to the Festival are offered four distinct tours with diverse experiences. These tours include “Follow the Lover”, “Sa Dec: Love of Land – Love of Flowers”, “Sa Dec Flower Kingdom – Green Heritage Journey”, and the program “Sa Dec – Buddhist Cultural Space in the Heart of the Ancient City”. Each tour is intertwined with traditional craft village encounters, providing visitors with captivating and unique experiences. The festival is set to continue through next Friday, January 25.
