(VOVworld) - New Year messages by Vietnamese Party and leaders, Tet traditions and customs, Tet’s atmosphere and 2014’s socio-economic development situation are all widely covered in the New Year edition of the Vietnamese newspapers.
In his New Year message, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the successful implementation of the resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, the socio-economic development plan in the 2011-2015 period, and Vietnam’s international commitments in international integration. The Party leader called on the Vietnamese Party, army and the public to unite to fulfill 2015’s tasks of strengthening macro-economic stability, restructuring the economy and growth model, ensuring social security, improving people’s lives, maintaining independence and sovereignty and a peaceful environment and fostering external relations. He stressed the importance of successfully organizing Party Congresses at various levels to prepare for the 12th National Party Congress.
In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, President Truong Tan Sang said Vietnam has great potential for further growth. To tap its potential, Vietnam needs to accelerate reforms, renew the growth model, restructure the economy, and increase economic competitiveness to ensure rapid and sustainable growth. President Sang called on all Vietnamese people to unite to develop the country and ensure national independence and sovereignty.
Nhan Dan or the People’s Daily newspaper ran an editorial highlighting the glorious tradition, firm stance and fighting capacity of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Quan Doi Nhan Dan or People’s Army newspaper had an editorial about measures to fight corruption which include strengthening management, fostering the capacity of Party members and consolidating the Party. The News newspaper of the Vietnam News Agency praised the Vietnamese people’s trust and support for the Party.
This newspaper also ran an article praising Vietnam’s marine police and the Truong Sa archipelago. Nhan Dan newspaper told a moving story about a visit of a delegation of village patriarchs to Truong Sa and their affection for the island soldiers.
Vietnam’s socio-economic development in 2014 and its prospects for 2015 are widely covered in Tet newspapers. According to the Vietnam Investment Review, Vietnam successfully fulfilled 13 out of 14 socio-economic targets in 2014, showing the recovery of the economy. Vietnam achieved a GDP growth rate of 5.98% against the set target of 5.8%, an export value of more than 150 billion USD, and inflation of 1.84%, the lowest rate in 14 years. In an interview with the Vietnam Investment Review, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh said Vietnam’s Free Trade Agreements with Europe, the Republic of Korea, the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan and the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community will create great opportunities for Vietnam to boost its economy and further integrate into the world economy. The Economic Times quoted economists as forecasting that the Vietnamese economy in 2015 will continue to growth and saying the target GDP growth rate of 6.2% is within reach.
Vietnamese traditions and customs during the traditional lunar New Year and Vietnamese people’s Tet celebration at home and overseas are also vividly reflected in Tet newspapers. The Labor newspaper posted photos of Tet celebrations in the Truong Sa archipelago. The News newspaper showcased photos of Tet celebrations among Mong ethnic minority people in Yen Bai province.
The newspapers are full of Tet parallel sentences, quizzes for Tet and Tet funny stories, especially stories about the Goat- the astrological sign for 2015. The Goat, a symbol of harmony and peace, also represents prosperity, wisdom and quickness.
