(VOVWORLD) - Localities and retail networks around Vietnam have secured sufficient supply of goods against possible disruptions by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has contingency plans for the epidemic.

Supermarkets nationwide have increased their inventories 400-500%, while suppliers have adjusted their distribution plans to deliver more goods to the cities. Major supermarket chains like Big C, Saigon Coop, and Vinmart have doubled or tripled their warehouse stocks.
Nguyễn Thị Phương, Deputy Director General of the Central Retail, the owner of the Big C supermarket chain, says Big C has worked with suppliers to ensure sufficient volumes and steady prices for essential goods.
“We have mobilized all domestic resources, including farms and cooperatives, to increase supplies. Our supermarkets will open earlier and close later than usual. We have sufficient goods and we promise not to increase our prices,” Phuong said.
Trần Thị Phương Lan, Deputy Director of Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade, said the city’s distribution network can ensure sufficient goods in any circumstance.
HCMC’s People’s Committee has also stockpiled sufficient goods for the market. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will closely monitor the situation and press businesses and localities to take prompt action to remove market bottlenecks.
Minister Tran Tuan Anh said: “In any circumstance, adequate supplies will be ensured consistent with laws on goods quality and food hygiene. Each locality and sector must cooperate with producers and distributors to maintain quality and quantity of goods.”
The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s market management force will step up inspections and deal harshly with speculators and hoarders who might cause an artificial scarcity or sell fake goods. Online shopping is being encouraged to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
