So far, Vietnam has deployed 513 military personnel to 3 UN missions and UN headquarters, including 4 level 2 field hospitals, 1 engineer team and 76 officers.
Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission reflects the Vietnamese Party and State's foreign policy, raising the image and status of the Vietnamese armed forces and the People's Public Security force in ensuring international peace and security.
Caitlin Wiesen, Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam said Vietnam has contributed considerably to the UN’s peacekeeping. She said Vietnam has contributed an impressive percentage of the women involved in UN peacekeeping operations.
The UN backs Vietnam’s commitment to playing a more active role in global peace and security, and establishing a center to train and improve the capacity of peacekeeping forces, particularly female personnel.
She said the UN stands ready to provide technical support and mobilize resources for deploying female forces, help Vietnam with expertise and technologies, create an optimal environment for ensuring gender equality in peacekeeping and encourage the recruitment, maintenance, and promotion of women in the armed forces.
