Vietnamese agricultural export grew 26.5% from 2011 to 2018. But 2019 was a difficult year. China, which buys 70% of all Vietnamese agricultural exports, tightened its quarantine and traceability conditions. Vietnam had to reduce its dependence on the Chinese market and diversify its export markets. The export of Vietnamese vegetables and fruits to other Asian markets like Japan, South Korea and ASEAN countries is likely to increase thanks to the big purchasing power of these markets, similarities in consumer habits, ease of transportation, and import tariffs of zero percent under free trade agreements. Under new generation FTAs, Vietnamese fresh and processed vegetables and fruits enjoy zero tariffs.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is taking necessary measures to help Vietnamese enterprises capitalize on exploit opportunities from free trade agreements.

The Ministry has also focused on trade promotion to strengthen and expand export markets. Trade promotions like “Vietnamese goods week in France” and “Vietnamese goods days in Germany” have been held to get Vietnamese agricultural products into  the distribution networks of the Casino Group of France and Metro Cash and Carry of Germany.
