Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN, the World Trade Organisation, and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ambassador Mai told the meeting that Vietnam has successfully contained the COVID-19 pandemic and has begun a national socio-economic recovery, thanks to which it has maintained a positive GDP growth rate, a stable socio-economy, and macroeconomic balance, and controlled inflation in the 2020-2022 period.

Vietnam is accelerating economic restructuring toward a digital economy and green growth, and balancing economic development, environmental protection, and social welfare.   

Ambassador Mai said Vietnam continues to contribute to global food security while maintaining open trade based on a multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at the center and promoting sustainable agriculture.

One of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Vietnam continues to participate in climate change initiatives and commitments such as becoming carbon neutral by 2050. It looks forward to more support from UN agencies and other partners for green finance and building the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Mai said Vietnam strongly supports the central role of the UN and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), as part of global governance to address shared issues.

She said Vietnam supports the Bridgetown Agreement adopted by UNCTAD members at the UNCTAD-15 conference in October, 2021, while aims to help countries overcome inequality and vulnerability, move towards a comprehensive and sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and transform the model of national development and international cooperation to bring prosperity to everyone.

She emphasized the need for coordinated solutions and actions at the global, regional, and national level to address intertwined challenges, create the conditions for inclusive, sustainable growth, and put people at the center of all development policies and strategies.
