(VOVWORLD) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc begins a State visit to Cambodia on Tuesday. The visit illustrates the close relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia and their determination to continue to foster good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and long-term, sustainable, comprehensive cooperation.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the first Vietnamese leader to pay an official visit to Cambodia since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out two years ago. President Phuc’s visit is the first by a foreign leader to Cambodia in 2021.
New momentum for Vietnam-Cambodia relations
The two countries will celebrate the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties next year. President Phuc’s visit shows the determination of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people to strengthen the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and long-term sustainable comprehensive cooperation. The leaders of the two countries will take the opportunity to promote their potentials and generate momentum for bilateral economic cooperation.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang said: “The two countries will review cooperation results over the past years and discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern. They will discuss measures to boost bilateral relations in all fields, particularly in economics, and witness the signing of a number of cooperative agreements. With the determination and expectation of the two countries’ leaders and people, the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship will continue to be treasured and promoted.”
Vietnam, Cambodia pledge stronger mutual support
Over the past 2 years, although COVID-19 has severely affected every country, the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has continued to be promoted. They have worked together to fight the pandemic, helping each other with medical equipment, vaccines, and money.
Meetings were held to develop a shared border area of peace, stability, cooperation, and development. Cooperation in all fields has continued despite the impact of COVID-19.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in a phone call with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, vowed to raise bilateral trade turnover to an unprecedented level. The two countries consistently coordinate with each other at regional and global forums.

Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth said: “In 2020 Cambodia supported and praised Vietnam, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for successfully undertaking the role of ASEAN Chair, organizing conferences, and raising ASEAN cooperation to a new level during the COVID-19 epidemic. In 2022 Cambodia will assume the post of ASEAN Chair. The leaders of both countries have regularly talked on the phone and organized online meetings. This shows solidarity, mutual support, and Vietnam's support for Cambodia as ASEAN Chair at a time when ASEAN faces several challenges including competition between major powers and the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The two countries have signed multiple agreements over the past years. During his visit, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend a ground-breaking ceremony for a new administrative building of the Cambodian NA's Secretariat, a project funded by Vietnam.
With a history of solidarity, unity, and traditional friendship, Vietnam and Cambodia are always keenly aware of the importance of their national defense and development relations, strive to promote stronger bilateral relations, and jointly integrate into the region and the world.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc's visit to Cambodia maintains the momentum of cooperation, consolidates bilateral relations, benefits their peoples, and contributes to peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity in the region and the world.
