Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, high transportation costs, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, exports recovered and grew steadily in the past six month.

Vietnam’s export revenues totaled nearly 186 billion USD in the first half of 2022 with a trade surplus of 710 million USD.

In June, fisheries exports totaled 5.8 billion USD and exports in the processing industry totaled nearly 160 billion USD, 17% above last year. The garment and textile sector earned 22 billion USD from exports, up 23%. The double-digit export growth was a breakthrough despite an unstable world market. Vietnam’s exports to traditional markets remained stable.

Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, says that with the COVID-19 pandemic under control, demand in the world market is growing, and by taking advantage of the free trade agreements it has signed, Vietnam has good opportunities to increase its export this year.

Mr. Hai said: "Vietnam and other countries have contained the pandemic while China is removing restrictions at major ports. This has created conditions for trade on the world market to return to normal. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has informed Vietnamese businesses about the advantages of FTAs and potential fraud concerning origins, and restrictive measures other countries have imposed on imported goods."

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has provided businesses with market information and helped them expand their export markets.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has organized conferences to collect opinions on the export problems sectors face and find solutions.
