(VOVWORLD) -Senior Vietnamese leaders have conducted a series of external activities recently to strengthen strategic dialogue and upgrade relations with several countries. This is part of the implementation of Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and development set by the 12th National Party Congress.

President Tran Dai Quang is on an official visit to Russia after his trip to Belarus earlier this week. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will visit Germany and attend the G20 summit in Hamburg from July 5-8 and visit the Netherlands from July 9-11.
Result of perception reform
Vietnam has pursued a foreign policy of openness, and diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations. Vietnam’s ultimate goal is to create an international environment favorable for its renewal, development towards a socialist-oriented market economy, achieving the goal of a wealthy people and strong country, and safeguarding national independence and sovereignty. The external activities follow the guideline of independence, unity, and socialism, plus creativity, flexibility, and dynamism in line with Vietnam’s specific conditions and the world developments. This guideline adopts Ho Chi Minh’s stance of “firm in objectives, flexible in strategies and tactics.”
Thanks to its foreign policy, Vietnam has gained major achievements, maintained a peaceful environment, expanded foreign relations, and enhanced its stature globally. Vietnam has proactively integrated into the world in all areas.
Open foreign policy confirmed
Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 177 countries, including all world powers, and trade relations with more than 220 countries and territories. Vietnam is an official member of almost all major international organizations, and key trade and financial institutions. It has attracted more than 17,000 foreign direct investment projects capitalized at over 170 billion USD. In addition to major markets like Japan, ASEAN, China, the Republic of Korea, the EU, the US, Australia, Vietnamese goods have penetrated many other markets: Russia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.
Vietnam has worked with other countries to protect peace and fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter. Vietnam fulfilled its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council during the 2008-2009 tenure and the UN Human Rights Council during 2014-2016 tenure.
