(VOVworld) – A seminar highlighting Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air victory was held in Hanoi on Wednesday as part of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory.

Addressing the event entitled “Victory of Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the Air – height of Vietnam’s mind and will”, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Thanh Cung said ‘The victory has become a great historical upshot, a unique exploit reflecting the Party and President Ho Chi Minh’s mind, will, and vision. This seminar is of political significance contributing to educating the Armed Forces and the people, especially the younger generations about the revolutionary tradition, patriotism, national pride, the great unity in the national renewal process and industrialization and modernization. ’

Reports at the seminar affirmed the party and President Ho Chi Minh’s strategic vision, the sound direction and creativeness of the Defense Ministry for the operation’s success. Colonel Tran Ngoc Long, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Military History Institute, said ‘The US air forces were equipped with most advanced equipment and weapons, particularly its B52 bombers had state-of-the-art technical features. But it’s obvious that we won by our will and mind. We were confident and successfully developed a plan to return fire. In combat, our air defense soldiers and Hanoi’s residents were very creative in fighting tactics and innovating weapons and equipment to fully tap their features.’

The seminar is organized by the Defense Ministry, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Communications and the Hanoi Party Committee and People’s Committee.
