Hung Kings Temple is a complex of majestic buildings located on Nghia Linh Mountain, in Phong Chau District, Phu Tho Province. The complex consists of Ha Temple and Pagoda, Gieng Temple, Trung and Thuong Temples, and the Hung Kings Tomb. Two hundred and twenty five steps lie between Dai Mon Gate and Ha Temple, which was built in the 15th century.
According to legend, Mother Au Co gave birth to a pouch containing 100 eggs, which hatched to produce 100 children. The eldest child, Hung Vuong, became King. He built a capital in Phong Chau and named the country Van Lang. In front of Ha temple, there is a 1, 000-year-old tree. Over 150 steps must be climbed to get to Trung Temple. The Hung Kings built this temple as a place to rest and hold political meetings.
Visitors to Hung Kings Temple come to pay tribute to the founders of Vietnam. Visiting Hung Kings Temple in the early Spring has become a Vietnamese tradition. "We offer visitors transportation and guided tours around the complex. Restaurants and souvenir shops are also available. We connect tours of Hung Kings Temple with other tours in Yen Bai and Lao Cai province", said Bui Thi Toan, Director of the Hung Kings Temple Tourism Center.
Vietnamese people, wherever they are, all remember the death anniversary of their ancestors, which falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month. Hung Kings temple has always been a symbol of the Vietnamese spirit and unity.
