Dear VOV listeners!
People in Vietnam and around the world are welcoming in a new year with new hopes. In the context of complicated global political, security, and economic developments, Vietnam has been able to stabilize its macro-economy, contain inflation, ensure social security, and strengthen national defense. Thanks to the government’s resolute measures, in 2014 inflation was controlled, the Consumer Price Index increased just 4.09%, and economic growth was 5.98%.
2014 was a successful year for Vietnam. Vietnam attracted 20.23 billion USD in foreign investment and earned 150 billion USD from exports, up 13.6% from 2013 with an export surplus of 2 billion USD.
Vietnam has been consistent with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, diversification and multilateralization of relations, and proactive international integration. In 2014 Vietnam continued to promote a favorable environment for international cooperation and development, and to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Vietnam has established strategic and comprehensive partnerships with many developed countries including the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council. Vietnam and other ASEAN member nations have been working toward establishing an ASEAN Community in 2015. In 2014 Vietnam completed its first year as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Chair of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and a member of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee.
In 2014 VOV continued to be a reliable information channel in Vietnam and throughout the world with four formats - radio, print, online, and television - reflecting all aspects of life in Vietnam: politics, economics, culture, and society. VOV’s websites - www.vovworld.vn and www.radiovietnam.vn - continue to be a source of information about Vietnam and Vietnam’s 63 provinces in 11 foreign languages, 12 ethnic languages, and Vietnamese, where listeners can listen to all of VOV’s radio programs. VOV’s websites are multimedia, including video clips as well as live and recorded radio programs.
In 2015 VOV will continue to increase its coverage and diversify its programming to be more appealing to listeners at home and abroad.
On behalf of the VOV staff, I wish you all good health, prosperity, and happiness in the new year and hope you will continue to accompany us on our path of development.
