B: Graham Bell wrote on our website vovworld.vn that he has been very pleasantly surprised to hear a good signal from Voice of Vietnam during a recent trip to northern Finland. “The distance is about 7500 kilometers. He really enjoyed listening to the music you played. I'd really like to receive your verification. Picking you up from so far away was fascinating for me. I enjoyed the song: Tháng Tư Về (April arrives) by singer Hồng Nhung. I hope this is interesting to you and look forward to your verification. Your transmitters and antennae are doing a great job!”
A: We’re delightful to receive a lot of feedback from our regular listeners and correspondence with new listeners every week. Your remarks of the broadcast will be forwarded to our technicians. We’ll keep contact by email to send you our frequency list and program guide.
B: We’d like to extend a compliment from Ashik Eqbal Tokon, a member of VOV Spectators' Association of Bangladesh and VOV’s Fans Club of Bangladesh to Vietnam’s female football players: “I’m writing to express my heartfelt congratulations to Vietnam’s women football team on their remarkable achievement in qualifying for the 2023 Women's World Cup. It is indeed great news for Asian football and a proud moment for every Vietnamese football fan.”
A: He continued saying: “I must salute the team captain, Huynh Nhu, and the entire squad for their unwavering determination and commitment to representing Vietnam on the international stage. Their dream of competing in the Women's World Cup is not just theirs alone but a dream shared by all Vietnamese football enthusiasts.”
B: “As the team faces formidable opponents like the USA, Netherlands, and Portugal in the group stage, I’m confident that they will rise to the challenge and give their best performance. The rigorous training in Europe and the friendly matches against New Zealand and Spain must have strengthened their skills and team spirit.”
A: “I want to extend my best wishes and support to Coach Mai Duc Chung and all the players. The pressure may be immense, but I believe that with a relaxed mindset and the determination to win, they will excel on the field and make their nation proud.”
B: Thank you Ashik Eqbal Tokon. It's also our wish to the Vietnamese women's football team.
A: Jayanta Chakrabarty of India emailed us on July 22 saying that the reception on the frequency of 7220 khz was good with a strong signal. His SINPO rating was all 4s. He also complimented the program content and presentation which he felt were as good as usual.
B: He said: “The news and reports from the Voice of Vietnam are comprehensive, balanced, and updated. I do not have to tune in to other radio stations for getting reliable news of Vietnam or from other parts of the world. The information is presented in an easy to understand language that makes listening a happy experience for listeners, like me, whose mother-tongue is not English.”
A: He went on to say: "I’d like to comment on the news report on Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim’s saying that Vietnam's development process is a learning experience. As a trained economist I have been following the growth trajectory of Vietnam for a long time. I’m amazed to note the resilient and sustained economic growth in various sectors like industry, agriculture, investment, trade and services and digital technology. Fundamental social and economic changes have occurred in a short span of time raising the standard of life of the people. I agree with the Malaysian PM's positive observation on Vietnam's economy.”
B: Thank you, Chakrabarty, for your compliments. We are very glad to know that you had an entertaining and informative listening experience with VOV’s English program.
A: Mr. Chakrabarty sends us emails almost everyday and has many interesting questions. Today we pick one topic to answer – the underground metro railway network in Vietnam.
A: The metro networks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are under construction, with some parts having been put into operation. The planning of the Metro Hanoi to 2030 will have 9 routes connecting with satellite cities. It will have a total length of 420 kilometers, including viaduct, viaduct combined with rail, and underground. There will be radial routes, routes to the airport, and a roundabout route.
B: One line of the Metro Hanoi, the first one in Vietnam, has been put into operation since November 2021. The 13-kilometer elevated line runs between Cat Linh in north-central Hanoi and Ha Dong in the southwestern suburbs. It served about 2.65 million passengers in the first quarter of this year. Overall, it transports over 32,000 passengers per weekday, and around 28,000 riders on the weekend.
A: In Ho Chi Minh City, the metro line 1 connecting Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien has completed 95% of the total construction. It’s expected to test run in September, before moving to the trial operation phase by the end of this year. The plan is to begin its commercial run in early 2024.
B: Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro line 1 with a total length of 20 kilometers has 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. The Ben Thanh Central Station will be the convergence of many metro lines and is expected to become a new iconic construction in Ho Chi Minh City with its special architecture devoted to lighting.
A: For now to bring you a glimpse of Ho Chi Minh City’s dynamism, let’s listen to “Saigon iced milk coffee” by Ha Kio. If you have a chance to visit Ho Chi Minh City, you’re highly recommended to try iced milk coffee, the famous and classic drink that has long been part of the daily routine of the people of Saigon.
B: The song “Saigon iced milk coffee” by Ha Kio has brought our program to an end. If you have feedback or questions, email us at englishsection@vov.vn. You can hear us on the Internet at vovworld.vn, both live and recorded programs.
