A: Md. Jahangir Alam of Bangladesh shared his joy listening to a special program marking VOV’s Englishg service’s 75th anniversary this week. He wrote: “Today at 10.00 hours UTC I heard the special program for the 75th birthday of the English Service. I was able to hear the voice of old announcers making me to travel back to 40 years when I used to listen to in the 80's. The special program I listened to was one of the most memorable programs on VOV. Thanks for giving the opportunity to share the experience of Ex-staff. With me is now the old QSL dated June 11, 1982 received while I was studying in college. Your staff members are hardworking which made you successful in all fields. Wish you all success.”

B: Thank you, Mr. Md. Jahangir for listening to our programs for such a long time. For us, the staff at the English Service, stories shared by our predecessors are also impressive and inspiring helping us to learn from those unforgettable days in Vietnam, the Voice of Vietnam, and the English Service. We’re so happy that we still receive feedback from listeners, who have listened to our program for many many years, some since the 1970s.

A: Also commenting on that special program, Vijay Kumar Rejeti of India wrote: “On your website I heard your special program for the 75th anniversary and enjoyed hearing the voices of some old members of the VOV English Service since I have been listening to VOV on Shortwave since 1980 though not regularly. The program " sharing the untold stories by the old staff members of VOV" was quite fascinating indeed. Despite hardships and poor working conditions, less technology, the old staff members of those days strived to give the best programs to their listeners. Just three (3) typewriters for about 8 to 10 staff, collecting the news from the Vietnam News Agency and copying them in their own handwriting, carrying the news and other items from the Quan Su Street to the present location for recording etc. I was surprised to hear that your staff members were served with EXAMPLE OF MEAL rather than full meals in the canteen.”

B: The Indian listener wrote: “I was further surprised to hear that the news regarding the “signing of the Paris peace accord" was put on the air not from Hanoi but from Yunan in China. It was good to note that VOV had good relations with Radio Havana, Cuba. Really I enjoyed this special program with the old and new staff of VOV sitting together in one studio and making the program.”

B: Since we announced the temporary halt of our broadcasts on the frequency of 7315 khz beaming to the East Coast of the US, many listeners have expressed their disappointment. Many of them have never written to VOV before but in their recent feedback to VOV, we learnt that there are many many listeners who have been listening to us for years.
A: Jack Dully of the US wrote: “I have been listening for years on different short wave radios to your English broadcasts. Mainly from the East Coast Yonkers, N.Y.). You come in clearly and powerful like a local FM station. No exaggeration ! I also travel with my dipole to a remote cabin that I rent in Pennsylvania and your signal is even better. I really do like your music, also. I am disappointed to hear that you are canceling further broadcasts to North America as well as many others in America and Canada. Please reconsider and perhaps there are other options, such as limiting the days that you transmit. Thank You”
B: Rafael Scapin of Canada wrote: “I live in Canada and would like to ask you to continue broadcasting in shortwave to North America. I am a shortwave listener and always hear a lot about your country through the radio broadcasts. Thank you very much!”
A: Gorden Lyel of Johnston City, Illinois USA wrote: “I've been a shortwave listener here in North America for just under 40 years now. I have listened to VOV for over 30 years. I was very disappointed to hear that the relay of VOV had been dropped. I hope you will decide to relay VOV back in North America via WRMI so I can listen again.”

B: With the COVID-19 epidemic now under control in Vietnam and other countries, we hope travel between countries will soon resume and we will receive more letters from listeners around the world.
A: Here in Vietnam, restrictions due to the disease have been gradually removed. Hanoi reopeedn karaoke clubs and bars on Wednesday. They were closed on August 1 to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.
B: Hanoi has not recorded any new community transmissions since August 19. After Vietnam’s second coronavirus wave hit in late July, Hanoi closed down its walking streets to contain the virus. They will reopen on Friday.
A: Ho Chi Minh City already reopened its bars and dance clubs on September 7, after a month of closure.
B: Vietnam had confirmed 1,063 Covid-19 cases by Wednesday. 99 are being treated. A total of 35 people have died from the disease, most of them elderly and suffering from underlying conditions like diabetes or kidney failure. Vietnam has not recorded a local transmission of the virus in nearly two weeks.
A: In Da Nang, the epicenter of the second wave of COVID-19, airlines, railways, and buses have been operating normally since September 7. The Vietnamese government has allowed the reopening of flights to Japan, South Korea, mainland China, and Chinese Taiwan from Tuesday. Flights to Laos and Cambodia will resume next Wednesday. We hope normal life will resume soon around the world.
