Da Nang lights up 1,000 lanterns for victims of traffic accidents

(VOVWORLD) - The Da Nang Youth Union held a requiem on November 17 for victims of traffic accidents who have lost their life across the nation during the last year.
The event is held in response to the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2019. |
During the first nine months of the year, there were 61 traffic accidents recorded in Da Nang. In total, these incidents took the life of over 42 people, in addition to injuring a further 26 others. |
The Da Nang Youth Union have been holding a series of recent events in a bid to promote traffic safety across the city. |
At one of the events, Nguyen Duy Minh, secretary of the Danang Youth Union, requests that young people join hands in building and implementing civility on the city’s roads, and to ease the pains felt by the families of victims of traffic accidents. |
According to statistics, the victims of traffic accidents are often the main source of income for their families. Therefore, traffic accidents can cause serious consequences, not only for family members, but for wider society. |
Upon addressing the requiem, Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Quang of municipal police force says the event aims to raise awareness across all of society on the consequences of traffic accidents. It is hoped that such occasions will make the community more likely to abide by the traffic laws. |
Ahead of the requiem, the Da Nang Youth Union visited six families who have had members killed in traffic accidents. |
