Themed “Preserving and Promoting Northeast Ethnic Culture in the Reform Process: Integration and Sustainable Development", the festival aims to honour the traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in the northeast provinces.
Delegates at the opening ceremony include Politburo member Truong Thi Mai, Head of the Party’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice State President, Do Ba Ty, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Michael Croft, Chief Representative of UNESCO Office in Vietnam.

Representatives of Hanoi, Lao Cai, Bac Ninh, and Vinh Phuc receive UNESCO’s inscription certificate recognizing tug-of-war game and ritual as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The festival draws about over 1,000 artists, artisans, and musicians from ethnic groups in the nine provinces of Vinh Phuc, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh and the guest province Thanh Hoa.

The 10th ethnic culture festival takes place from November 2 to 4, 2018 in Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc province.
