Hung Kings Temple Festival 2018 celebrated

(VOVWORLD) -The Hung Kings Temple Festival 2018 is taking place from April 21-25 (6th to 10th day of the third lunar month).
The festival is expected to welcome 7 to 8 million visitors |
Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Quang Nam, Kien Giang, and Binh Duong province co-organize the Festival. The ritual includes a procession and offering of local specialties to the ancestors.

The Management Board of Hung Kings Temple Complex said temples and pagodas have been refurbished and other facilities on Nghia Linh mountain have been upgraded to welcome pilgrims. |
The worship of Hung Kings derived from the belief that Vietnamese people are from the same root and are “descendants of Dragon and Fairy”. It honors the tradition of “remembering the source of the water we drink” and national unity |
Legend tells that Van Lang was the first Vietnamese state and reigned by 18 Kings Hung. They taught the people to grow wet rice and chose Nghia Linh Mountain, the highest in the region, to perform rituals devoted to Rice and Sun Genies to pray for lush crops.

The Festival features a Street Folk Art event, a contest to make Chung cake and round, glutinous rice cake, camping, Viet Tri boat race, Xoan singing, and a water puppet show. |
