Tran Thi Van Anh, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, says the festival is back after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that it has become a cultural event attracting a number of locals and tourists.
The festival is part of activities of Hanoi's participation in UNESCO's creative city network. It aims to create a healthy playground for professional calligraphers who write scripts conveying the true meaning of prosperity, longevity, and happiness.
According to Le Xuan Kieu, director of the Culture and Science center of the Temple of Literature, the festival brings together 50 Vietnamese calligraphers across the country, and a foreign calligrapher from France.
The festival is also participated by skilled artisans from traditional craft villages of silk, lacquer, and ceramics.
Visitors gain greater insight into the calligraphic art by enjoying the 40 calligraphic works displayed at the festival
The festival also includes folk games and traditional art performances.
Organizers present certificates to the authors whose works are put on display at the festival.
