The beauty of handloom weaving of the Lu ethnic group

There are about 6,800 Lu people in Lai Chau province. They live mainly in Ban Hon hamlet, Tam Duong district. The Lu is one of 14 ethnic minority groups with a population of less than 10,000 people.

Although life is still difficult, the Lu people always live optimistically and attach much attention to preserving their traditional culture.

Almost all middle-aged Lu women dye their teeth black.

Lu families in Hon hamlet have looms and tools to spin yarns to make their own fabric and clothes.

They grow cotton plant or collect cotton in the wild.

Before getting married, Lu girls should weave and embroider skillfully to make clothes for her family members.

Lu women make diverse type of products such as dresses, shirts, scarves, and bags.

Their clothes have unique decorative patterns.

At festivals and celebrations or when the family has guests, Lu women wear two-layer dresses with beautiful embroidery.

The Lu’s performing clothes are among the most unique costumes of ethnic groups in Lai Chau province.

The pristine, peaceful landscape of Hon hamlet is also a highlight to attract more tourists in recent years.
