The council passed four resolutions stressing the role of professionals in providing a quality education towards establishing an ASEAN Community by 2015, encouraging closer interaction to foster mutual understanding within the ASEAN community, boosting collaboration between ASEAN countries and educational organizations, and sustaining and supporting work standards for teachers.

Addressing the closing ceremony, the President of the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), Hashim Adnan, said that achieving quality education requires stringent entrance requirements, training, and continuing professional development for teachers. He said quality education consists of three important elements: quality teaching and learning; modern curriculum and equipment; and a conducive teaching and learning environment. He also pointed out the necessity of ensuring equal access to a quality education at all levels without discrimination or prejudice.
