(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum on Thursday launched a book about works by Vietnamese famous painter Tran Van Can to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.

Born in Bac Ninh province in 1910, Can is one of the greatest painters of modern Vietnamese art whose works have brought Vietnamese fine arts to the global level.
The 213-page book provides readers with writings, images, and information about Can’s paintings that are part of the museum’s collection.
On this occasion, the museum received musical composition “Little Thuy’s Minuet” by Paul Zetter who was Assistant Director of the British Council Vietnam from 1998–2002. The music composition was inspired by Can’s “Em Thuy” painting.

Dr. Nguyen Anh Minh, the museum’s Director, said, “The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has received many art works donated by organizations and individuals. But this is the first time the museum has received a musical work, a special piece of music composed by British musician Paul Zetter, inspired by one of the museum’s national treasures, the oil painting ‘Em Thuy’ by Tran Van Can.”
In 2000 when he saw the painting ‘Em Thuy’ by chance, Paul Zetter was extremely impressed by the innocent eyes of a little Vietnamese girl, Minh recalled.
“The harmony in the musician’s soul with the little girl in the painting inspired him to write the musical piece ‘Little Thuy’s Minuet’. It will be used in the museum’s digital platforms as a brand identity and in its concert programs,” according to Minh.
