Xu Liping, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences told reporters about Vietnam’s participation in World Economic Forum (WEF)’s 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions taking place in China’s Dalian city. 

“I think that these two points fully show Vietnam's extremely important role in the world economy. Because we all know this is the Annual Meeting of the New Champions. In other words, to a certain extent, Vietnam plays the role of a pioneer in the development of the global economy," he said. 

Professor Xu described Vietnam's economic growth of more than 5% last year and projection of 6%-6.5% this year as very remarkable, saying this relatively high growth rate among emerging economies in Asia shows momentum for Vietnam's future growth.

Asked about the Vietnamese Prime Minister's key note speech at the WEF 15 Dalian, Mr. Xu said: “I think this speech is rich in content and very positive overall. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's statement brought strong confidence to the business and political community taking part in this forum. This is remarkable.”

Professor Xu cited the three factors affecting global economic development that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh mentioned, including the explosive development of science, technology and innovation; the impact of climate change, natural disasters, resource depletion, population aging; and the impact of deglobalization. He called PM Chinh’s observations accurate.

The three areas of shaping, leading, and pioneering in the digital economy, green economy, and high-quality human resource development that Prime Minister Chinh proposed are solutions conducive to the global economy, according to the Chinese expert.
