On Sunday morning, Xinhua News Agency and other major media agencies of China reported on Mr. Lam's arrival in Guangzhou, beginning his state visit to China. Earlier as soon as the two countries issued a statement about the visit, Chinese media published commentaries and reports on the relationship between the two countries and what the visit means for Vietnam and China.
In an article published on APP on Saturday, the Beijing Daily quoted the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying To Lam’s choice of China as the first country to visit after taking office fully reflects the high regard for developing relations between the two Parties and the two countries.
Zhao Weihua, director of the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries at Fudan University’s Institute of International Studies, told Beijing Daily that To Lam’s first overseas trip to China after taking office demonstrates the importance of relations between the two countries.
Nie Hui Hui, who is in charge of the Vietnam project at the Institute of Southeast Asian and Oceanian Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said that China-Vietnam relations would continue to stabilize and improve in the coming time. She said that after taking office, General Secretary and President To Lam has repeatedly said that he highly values relations with China, emphasizing that developing relations with China is a consistent policy, strategic choice, and top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy. Under the leadership of To Lam, Vietnam will continue to maintain the balance between great powers and at the same time realize its own interest goals, said Nie.

Sharing the perspective, international relations commentator Guan Yao, in a statement on Shenzhen Cable TV of Guangdong province, said that Mr. Lam’s visit is a continuation of tradition of the first visits of leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Shanghai's Xinmin Evening News affirmed that from the statements of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it’s possible to see the importance of the talks and meetings within the framework of the visit. The paper quoted the Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying that China was looking forward to Mr. Lam’s visit to further strengthen the traditional friendship and deepen the building of the joint community with a shared future.
The article called Vietnam a rising star as it has received leaders of China, the US, and Russia on state visits since 2023. It means that the leaders of three of five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council visited Vietnam in a short period of time. The development of bilateral relations is beneficial to the two Parties and two countries, and to peace and development, and building unique socialism of each side, it concluded.
