Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh’s activities in Laos

(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh met with his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith and Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng in Vientiane on Saturday. He also met with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi. Mr. Minh is in Laos for the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting from July 23 to July 26.

During a meeting with the Lao Foreign Minister, both sides agreed on effective coordination to organize activities on the occasion of 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam – Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2017. Minister Minh voiced his support for Lao’s role as Chair of ASEAN, considering Lao’s success as Vietnam’s.

Ministers of Vietnam and Brunei discussed measures to boost economic cooperation and promptly finalize negotiations and sign the bilateral agreement on investment encouragement and protection. Both sides also agreed to work closely with other ASEAN member countries to successfully build an ASEAN community, respect internal solidarity and uphold ASEAN’s central role in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development.

During talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, both leaders stressed the need to make efforts to forge close ties between Vietnam and Myanmar for the two peoples and for ASEAN’s solidarity and cooperation.
