European Council President visits Vietnam

(VOVworld) – President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy today/ on Wednesday officially begins a three-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang. Rompuy and Sang will hold talks after the reception and then witness the signing of a joint statement on the financial agreement of EU projects and the 2012 climate change sponsor contract. Rompuy is scheduled to meet with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and respond to the media.

This is the first visit ever by an EC president to Vietnam since bilateral diplomatic ties were established in 1990. The visit reflects the EU’s appreciation of Vietnam’s steadily growing position and its wish to step up multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.
