Fish praying festival opens in Thua Thien-Hue
(VOVworld) – A festival to pray for a good fishing harvest, known as the Cau Ngu Festival, was held in Thuan An town in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Tuesday.

Dating back 500 years, the festival is organized once every three years. Ton That Ninh, head of the Thai Duong Culture Village, notes the festival’s meaning: “The festival shows respect to the village’s Genie, who on behalf of villagers will pray good weather and peaceful sea in order to have good catches. As a result, the fishermen will have a prosperous life.”

The event opened with rituals offering sacrifices to the gods practiced by prestigious people. It was followed by lion dances and performances re-enacting fish catching and trading activities in a coastal village. The fishermen of Thuan An believe that the new year will bring in a prosperous fish-haul.
