At the monthly Government meeting for November in Hanoi on Thursday, Minister Dam highlighted safety at the Tranh River Hydroelectricity Plant II, reduction of the interest rate, and implementation of decree 71 increasing the fine on owners of unregistered vehicles.

In response to reporters’ questions about a hydro-power project in Dong Nai and Tranh River Hydroelectricity Plant II, Dam said human safety and private property are always top concerns of the government when building a hydro-electricity plant. Resettlement policies, environmental impacts, and social and economic effects will be carefully examined. Minister Dam added ‘How the dam will be used and whether or not it will contain water to its maximum level be based on objective scientific assessments. Although review agencies have declared the reservoir safe enough, the Prime Minister will consult foreign experts before making a final decision.

Minister Dam says that the government will continue to direct relevant ministries and agencies to curb inflation, reduce bank rates, and deal with bad debt. Vietnam works to hold inflation to 7.5% this year.
