Natalegawa was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a conference on a
Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in Jakarta
on Monday. He said he had talked on the phone with
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and
Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh about the East Sea
situation. He called on all parties to respect international law, especially
the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on
the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) to ease current tensions. He
stressed that the East
Sea issues should be resolved
through peaceful negotiations without threats or use of violence.
