Italy votes in 2nd round of municipal polls

Italians on Sunday voted in the second round of municipal polls. After the two-day vote in 67 towns and cities in Italy no candidate gained over 50% of total votes in the first round two weeks ago. Italians were particularly attentive to the mayoral election with Rome’s center right Mayor Gianni Alemanno of the former Prime Minister Silvio Bercusconi facing a stiff challenge from his centre-left rival Ignazio Marino. The result of the second round of polls in Italy is expected to be released on Monday.
