Japan, RoK agree to work toward closer ties
(VOVworld) – Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK) pledged on Thursday to cooperate in celebrating a half century of diplomatic normalization, the latest sign of an improving relationship that had soured over their past disputes.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida told Korea’s First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-Yong that both sides should strive to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic normalisation in a warm atmosphere. Kishida stressed the importance of close and continuous communication between their senior officials. Cho replied that Seoul hopes to make next year a year of improved relations.
The 10-minute meeting was a hopeful sign that the neighbors are trying to put years of bitter disputes behind them.
