Libya’s PM pledges to follow the goal of national reconciliation

Libya’s transitional government sworn in on Thursday with commitment to unite the war-ravaged nation and pave the way for new constitution and a general election in 7 months. Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, Prime Minister Abdel Rahim al-Kib committed that the government will follow the goals of the Revolution on February 17th for the national independence, security and unity. Meanwhile, some ethnic groups in the country have complained that they have no position in the country’s transitional government.

The UN and the US have welcomed the move. UN Chief Ban Ki-moon expressed his hope that Libya’s new government will manage to deal with challenges facing the country in the transitional period including national reconciliation, security and human rights protection. The same day, US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton said this is a key step in the country’s transition to democracy, adding that the US will cooperate with Libya’s transitional government to address the country’s major challenges.
