Mi Quang folk knowledge named national intangible cultural heritage

(VOVWORLD) -Mi Quang (Quang-style noodle)’s folk knowledge is included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage, according to a decision just signed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Folklorists say Mi Quang is a unique dish associated with the process of land reclamation and village establishment. It exists as an inseparable part of the history of each village and hamlet of Quang region in central Vietnam. This dish is also associated with traditional occupations and villages in Quang Nam such as rice growing, rice paper making, and vegetable cultivation.

Quang noodle embodies almost all the characteristics of local cuisine, with the diversity in raw materials and flexible and creative processing methods. This dish originates from rural life in harsh natural circumstances, so it has the raw and rich flavor like the personality of Quang Nam people. Mi Quang is currently present in most provinces and cities throughout Vietnam and some other countries where many Vietnamese people live.

Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said: “The uniqueness of Mi Quang dish contributes to honoring the traditional cultural beauty, history of the land, and the potential strengths of Quang cuisine. It will help promote images and tourist destinations and introduce Quang culinary values to domestic and foreign tourists.”
