(VOVWORLD) - More than 35.6 million people around the world had been infected with the novel coronavirus, and more than 1 million of them had died as of Tuesday afternoon, according to worldometers.info.

Over the past 24 hours, India recorded the highest number of new infections in the world with almost 60,000 cases, followed by the US and Brazil.
The US remains the country with the most COVID-19 infections with nearly 7.7 million cases. India and Brazil come the second and third.
Indonesia and the Philippines, two epicenters in Asia, recorded 3,600 and 2,300 new cases.
In South America, Argentina reported more than 11,000 new infections in the past 24 hours.
In the Middle East, COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in Israel, Iran, and Iraq.
